Free your iPod !!!

iPod might be the greatest thing to happen to music since ears. But my personal listening habits (and many others who I scientifically polled…), seem to evolve around listening to the same bunch of songs. Granted it’s the same 200 or so songs, but there’s an extreme amount of repetition.

Wondering who was being imprisoned in the virtual Siberia of my personal music device, I removed my playlists, and opted for “all songs.” I’m going cold turkey through all 7,967 tracks to see what I had in there. In the process, I discovered some rather wonderful eclecticism, and songs I truly love.

Here’s what came up on songs 314 – 323:

Jimi314. Ray Stevens – “Ahab the Arab”

315. Robbie Robertson – “Sweet Fire of Love”

316. Thelonius Monk w/ John Coltrane – “Epistrophy”

317. J Geils Band – “Flamethrower”

318. Billy Joel – “All For Leyna”

319. Foxboro Hot Tubs – “The Pedestrian”

320. Elton John – “Harmony”

321. The Cure – “Fascination Street”

322. Datarock – “Bulldozer”

323. Led Zeppelin – “The Rover”

A random enough mix, as exepcted, but oddly these songs never come up when the iPod is set to random. Granted, there are nearly 8,000 songs stashed away, but I’ve had this iPod for nearly a year now, shouldn’t they have popped up at least once? Alternately, why does my iPod like Jimi Hendrix so much?

Can’t wait to see what happens when I get to the upper 7,000s…
