I resisted writing this post for a while, because I’m either gonna piss off a few people or (at best?) come off sounding all snooty and elitist. Finally though, that moment has passed.
Foursquare is a cool way to share information about where you’re at, offer cool tips, and play inside some marketing guy’s dream of social commentary. But then there are those who feel compelled to do the following, which is stupid, pointless, and ridiculous ….
- Check-ins at home. Really, Foursquare is all about where you GO. If you really feel the need to broadcast that you’re HOME, um, do you understand the point?
- Check-ins at pointless places. I saw a few people check in from successive exits on the local highway. Who the fuck cares if you’re at Exit 17? Exit 18?
- Check-ins at fictitious places. Seriously, you’re really “in your happy place?” Good for you. But the rest of us don’t give a shit.
There’s bound to be more stupid Foursquare habits, and I encourage everyone else to share theirs. But I’ve gotta go places so I can check in places so I can get more points than you so I can win a prize that doesn’t exist.
