Boston Rock Academy Debuts on North Shore
Rock Band Instruction for Teens and Tweens

WAKEFIELD, MA Monday, October 6, 2008 — Boston Rock Academy is ready to rock and seeks students in grades 6-12 from Wakefield, Melrose, Lynnfield, Burlington, Stoneham and surrounding communities looking to do the same.

Founded by Melrose natives Scott Feldman and Julie (Campbell) Salickram, Boston Rock Academy is the first teaching facility in the area dedicated to teaching modern and classic rock music in an ensemble setting to area youths.

“Our goal in creating the academy was to offer the positive intellectual and cognitive benefits that exposure to a music program can bring, while giving students opportunities for social interactions in a fun, safe environment that their parents can feel good about,” said Feldman.

All classes will be held in the beautiful new rehearsal studios at JamSpot in Wakefield, MA, located just off Route 128. Classes will be held initially during weekends only for five consecutive weeks, with a performance on the final week at JamSpot for family and friends.

“With so many music classes being cut by schools these days, we really wanted to offer a chance for kids and teens to play together in an educational, teacher-led environment,” said Salickram. “Beyond musical instruction, students will also learn quite a bit about group dynamics and the problem solving and conflict resolution skills needed to make not only for a successful band, but in various professional and personal settings as well.”

Instructors for the course include veteran drummer Skip Fisher, who has played and toured with rock greats such as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Peter Tosh. Mike Tucker, Berklee alumnus, private music instructor and member of local band The Big Big Bucks, and Jeff DaRosa, the newest member of Boston rock legends, The Dropkick Murphys.

About Boston Rock Academy
 — The founders of Boston Rock Academy found music to be a common string in what made their childhood and teen years enjoyable — both intellectually and socially. And that enjoyment carried on into successful careers in the music industry. Both wish to give that experience to the local youths growing up today. The Academy offers a clean well-lighted place for collaborating, learning, sharing and growing while enjoying the soul of rock music. The goal is to create an appreciation for music, a love of learning and memories that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
